Middle Level License

Middle Level License

Middle School Licensure
for Teachers Pursuing Middle School Endorsement
The NEKSDC is offering an opportunity for Vermont teachers to become certified in the middle levels.
The process for attaining a middle level license is different for secondary licensed teachers than it is for elementary licensed teachers. Secondary teachers, assuming they are licensed and have passed the Praxis in their instructional area, must take the four required courses listed below. The process for elementary teachers requires: 1) that they have 18 credit hours in the area in which they will be teaching, 2) that they pass the Praxis for grades 5-9, and 3) that they take the four required courses listed below.
We strongly recommend that elementary teachers pursuing a middle level license confer with the Vermont Department of Education’s Teacher Licensing Office for a transcript review prior to pursuing licensing options.
The required courses (for both secondary and elementary teachers) are Adolescent Development, Middle Level Organization, Middle School Literacy Development, and Middle Level Curriculum.
